Nigeria Annual Tax Planner (2026)
Two planners in one: optimize your personal PAYE deductions, or forecast a business’s full-year tax bill.
Compared to claiming no rent relief, no NHF, and no other deductions (pension is mandatory, not optional, so it’s unchanged in both cases).
₦0Nigeria Annual Tax Planner
Calculating a single tax bill is one thing; planning around it is another. This tool combines the engines behind our income tax, VAT, and deadline-calendar calculators into two purpose-built planners: one for individuals deciding whether claiming rent relief or opting into NHF is actually worth the paperwork, and one for business owners who want to see their whole year’s Companies Income Tax, Development Levy, and VAT obligation laid out before it arrives.
What “Tax Saved” Actually Means Here
Pension is not a planning lever — the 8% employee contribution is a statutory minimum under the Pension Reform Act, deducted whether you want it or not. Rent relief, NHF, and other eligible deductions under Section 30 of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 are genuinely discretionary: you have to actively claim them, with documentation. The personal planner runs your numbers twice — once as entered, once with those optional deductions zeroed out — and shows you the naira difference. If that number is small relative to the paperwork involved, that’s useful information too.
The Rent Relief Cap, and Whether You’ve Hit It
Rent relief is capped at the lesser of 20% of your annual rent or ₦500,000 — meaning you need to pay at least ₦2,500,000 in annual rent before the cap itself becomes the binding constraint rather than the 20% calculation. If you haven’t reached the cap, the planner shows your remaining headroom and an approximate additional saving at your current marginal tax rate — approximate because claiming more relief could, in principle, push your chargeable income down into a lower band entirely, which would change the marginal rate the estimate is based on. That’s a genuine edge case near a band boundary, not a hidden assumption.
How the Business Forecast Adds Up
For a company that isn’t classified as “small” (turnover above ₦50,000,000/year): Companies Income Tax is 30% of assessable profit, a 4% Development Levy applies to that same profit figure, and VAT is 7.5% of net taxable sales, collected monthly and remitted by the 21st of the following month. A small company pays 0% CIT, no Development Levy, and is generally exempt from VAT registration altogether under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 — which is why the forecast zeroes out entirely once that toggle is switched on.
The 12-month VAT schedule assumes your expected monthly net sales figure holds steady across the year — a genuine simplification for any business with seasonal swings, not a promise that every month will actually look the same.
What’s Deliberately Left Out
Withholding tax isn’t included in the business forecast. Unlike VAT’s single flat rate, WHT depends on the specific category of each payment you make or receive — there’s no single “expected annual WHT” figure to project without itemizing actual transactions, which would mean fabricating precision this tool doesn’t have. Use the WHT calculator for a specific transaction, and the deadline calendar for exactly when everything in this forecast falls due.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does rent relief actually save me on Nigerian income tax?
It reduces chargeable income by the lesser of 20% of annual rent or ₦500,000, saved at your marginal rate — this planner shows the exact naira figure versus claiming nothing.
How is a company’s annual tax bill forecast in Nigeria?
30% CIT + 4% Development Levy on assessable profit, plus 7.5% VAT on net sales monthly — unless the company qualifies as small (turnover ₦50,000,000 or less), in which case all three are zero.
Is pension contribution optional in Nigeria?
No — the 8% employee contribution is a statutory minimum, held constant in every comparison this planner makes.
This planner reuses the exact rates and formulas verified in this series’ income tax, VAT, and deadline-calendar calculators — see those tools’ own build documentation for full sourcing. It assumes a flat, unchanging salary and steady monthly sales; it does not model WHT, petroleum-sector taxes, or mid-year changes in income or turnover.
