Nigeria Invoice Generator

Section 153 of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 sets out exactly what a VAT invoice must contain, and it’s a longer list than most templates actually include. This tool tracks all eight required fields and flags what’s missing, computes VAT the same way as this site’s VAT calculator — 7.5% standard, or 0% for zero-rated/exempt line items — and gives you a PDF ready to send.

The Eight Required Fields

Your Tax ID, a sequential invoice number, your name and address, your CAC/business registration number, the date of supply, your client’s name, the gross transaction amount, and the VAT charged plus its rate. Miss one, and the invoice isn’t compliant — this tool’s banner at the top turns from a warning to confirmed once every field is filled in.

Why Invoice Numbers Need to Be Sequential

The Act specifically requires “sequential invoice numbering” — not just any unique number, but one that increases in order with no unexplained gaps. This tool remembers your next invoice number in this browser and increments it every time you export, so you don’t have to track it yourself or risk reusing one by accident.

Showing Withholding Tax on an Invoice

If your client is required to withhold tax on the payment — common for professional and consultancy fees — showing the expected WHT amount and net amount due upfront heads off a payment dispute later. The rate and whether WHT applies at all is ultimately the client’s determination based on the transaction type (see the WHT calculator for the full category breakdown) — this section is a courtesy note on your invoice, not a legal determination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fields must a Nigerian VAT invoice include?

Tax ID, sequential invoice number, supplier name/address, registration number, date of supply, purchaser name, gross amount, and VAT charged plus rate.

Should I include withholding tax on my invoice?

It can help avoid payment disputes, but the client’s own obligation and rate determine the actual figure.

Is my business and invoice data saved anywhere?

Business details are saved in this browser only. Line items and client details per invoice are not saved — export before starting a new one.

This tool does not verify your Tax ID or registration number against any official register, and does not submit anything to a tax authority. Confirm your invoice meets your specific obligations with a qualified tax professional.
