This tool excludes weekends and the 7 nationally-observed public holidays (2026–2027) on their actual date — it does not account for state-specific-only holidays (Labour Day, King’s Birthday, Melbourne Cup Day, etc.) or weekend-substitute-day shifts, which the ATO’s own rule says can also count nationally. Your real due date could land a business day or two later than shown if one of those applies in your period.

Payday Super Deadline Calculator

Since 1 July 2026, employers must pay Superannuation Guarantee within a set number of business days of each payday — not once a quarter, the way it used to work. This calculator takes your actual payday and works out the exact due date, counting business days correctly around weekends and national public holidays, for the three most common situations: an ordinary payday, a new employee or super fund’s first payment, and an out-of-cycle payment like a bonus.

The Standard Rule: 7 Business Days

Your contribution is on time if your employee’s super fund receives it — with enough information to allocate it to their account — within 7 business days of the day you paid them (their “QE day,” short for qualifying-earnings day). If you use a clearing house or payroll software to make the payment, build in extra time for them to process it; the 7-day clock doesn’t pause for your provider’s own processing time.

What Counts as a “Business Day” — More Than Just Weekdays

A business day excludes Saturdays, Sundays, and any day that’s a public holiday for the whole of any Australian state or territory — even one you don’t operate in. A Northern Territory-only holiday still pushes out a Sydney employer’s due date. This calculator handles the 7 holidays observed nationally (New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, ANZAC Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day) on their actual 2026 and 2027 dates, but doesn’t track every state’s own additional holidays — see the note above the results.

20 Business Days for a New Employee or Fund

The first contribution you make for a brand-new employee, or the first contribution to a new super fund after an existing employee switches funds, gets a longer window: 20 business days instead of 7. Every payment after that first one goes back to the normal 7-day rule.

Bonuses and Back Pay Follow a Different Clock

An out-of-cycle payment — a bonus, commission, allowance, back payment, or advance — doesn’t get its own 7-business-day countdown from the date you pay it. Instead, its super guarantee contribution is due on the same date as the contribution for the employee’s next regular payday. The ATO’s own example: a Christmas bonus paid on 7 December, with the next regular (weekly) payday on 10 December, both end up due on 21 December — the bonus doesn’t create an earlier, separate deadline.

Who Should Use This?

Employers and bookkeepers who want the exact due date for a specific pay run rather than a general monthly assumption — useful alongside the broader Australia Tax Deadline Calendar, which covers Super Guarantee alongside every other recurring obligation but assumes a simplified month-end payday for its own countdown.

What This Calculator Doesn’t Cover

Exceptional-circumstances determinations (natural disasters, widespread IT outages) are issued case-by-case by the ATO and can’t be predicted by a static tool. The “bunching rule” — where a new employee’s extended due date overlaps with a later regular payday’s own due date — isn’t computed automatically; check both dates manually if this applies to you. State-specific-only public holidays and weekend-substitute-day shifts aren’t modeled, as disclosed above.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days do I have to pay Super Guarantee under Payday Super?

7 business days after payday, standard case. 20 business days for a new employee or new fund’s first contribution. Out-of-cycle payments (bonuses) share the next regular payday’s own due date instead.

What counts as a business day for Payday Super?

Not a Saturday, Sunday, or a public holiday covering the whole of any Australian state or territory — even one you don’t operate in.

Does the 7-day deadline apply to bonuses and back payments?

No — those are due on the same date as the next regular payday’s own contribution, not 7 days after the bonus itself.

What happened to the old quarterly super deadlines?

They stopped applying to earnings paid from 1 July 2026, replaced by the per-payday rules described here.

This calculator provides an estimate based on the ATO rules stated above. It doesn’t model state-specific public holidays, weekend-substitute-day shifts, exceptional-circumstances determinations, or the bunching rule. Confirm your exact due date with ato.gov.au or a registered tax/BAS agent before relying on this for a payment you can’t afford to miss.
