Australia Tax Deadline Calendar (2026–27)

This calendar lists every recurring Australian tax and superannuation deadline that applies to individuals and businesses, and shows a live countdown to whichever one is coming up next for you. Pick your filters above and the list re-sorts itself, soonest first — no signup, no calculation to run, just today’s date compared against each deadline rule.

The Biggest Change This Year: Payday Super

If you’ve had “28 October, January, April, July” memorised as the Superannuation Guarantee deadline for years, that’s now out of date. From 1 July 2026, Payday Super replaced the old quarterly system: employers must get super guarantee into an employee’s fund within 7 business days of every payday, not once a quarter. The 12% contribution rate hasn’t changed, and neither has who you have to pay super for — only the timing and the penalty structure (interest now compounds daily, and the flat administration fee has been replaced by a scaled “administrative uplift” amount). The old quarterly dates still applied to any quarter ending on or before 30 June 2026 — they simply don’t apply to anything from that date forward.

Individual Tax Return: Two Very Different Deadlines

Lodge it yourself (through myTax or on paper) and it’s due 31 October. Use a registered tax agent instead, and — provided you engage them before that same 31 October — the standard due date under their lodgment program becomes 15 May the following year, with a 5 June concession available without needing to apply for it. That’s more than six extra months, which is exactly why “just find a tax agent before Halloween” is genuinely useful advice, not a technicality. (A minority of taxpayers with outstanding prior returns, large tax debts, or certain compliance histories get an earlier tax-agent due date instead — this calendar shows the standard case.)

BAS, PAYG Withholding and PAYG Instalments — Same Dates, Different Purposes

If your GST turnover is under $20 million, you report and pay BAS quarterly: 28 October, 28 February, 28 April, 28 July. PAYG instalments — pre-payments toward your own business’s income tax — use the exact same four dates. PAYG withholding (tax withheld from employees’ pay) works differently depending on how much you withhold: “small” withholders (≤$25,000/year) piggyback on the same quarterly BAS dates, but “medium” withholders ($25,001–$1 million/year) report and pay monthly, by the 21st instead. Toggle your cycle above to see the version that applies to you.

Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)

FBT runs on its own year — 1 April to 31 March, not the usual 1 July to 30 June. If you lodge and pay it yourself, both are due 21 May. This one only applies if you actually provide fringe benefits (a work car for private use, a cheap loan, and similar) — if you don’t, there’s nothing to lodge.

How the Countdown Is Calculated

For fixed-date obligations (BAS, PAYG instalments, the individual return, FBT), this tool checks last cycle’s date, this cycle’s, and next cycle’s, and shows whichever is soonest without having already passed — so early in a new period you’ll typically still see the previous cycle’s date if it hasn’t passed yet.

Payday Super’s “7 business days after payday” involves a genuine, disclosed assumption: this tool assumes monthly payroll paid on the last calendar day of the month (a common convention), and counts only weekends as non-working days — a real employer’s payday might fall elsewhere in the month, and an Australian public holiday in the 7-day window will push the real deadline a day or two later than shown here.

This calendar models recurring statutory deadlines based on the sources cited in its build documentation. It doesn’t model large PAYG withholders’ twice-weekly EFT schedule, the 2-instalment PAYG option for primary producers/special professionals, company income tax return dates specifically, state-based payroll tax or land tax deadlines, or an Australian public-holiday calendar in its working-day calculations. Confirm exact dates with the ATO or a registered tax or BAS agent before relying on this for a filing you cannot afford to miss.
